Hendricks Charles Swain, 93, of Ty Ty died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Zion Hope Baptist Church. Rev. Olin Hamlin will officiate with burial to follow in Zion Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Ragan Lawson, Robert Padgett, Tom Ray, James Walker, Fred Barnes and Oscar Payne will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Zion Hope Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Swain was born on June 18, 1915 in Tift County and was the son of Charlie Joseph Swain and Dollie Sumner Swain, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mildred Ray Swain. He was a retired framer and a member and active deacon of Zion Hope Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School and was director of church training. He was also a member of the Tift County Cattle Association, was a Master Mason and Shriner for 50 years, was past director of Gold Kist and was Soil and Water Conservation Man of the Year.
Mr. Swain is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Kathy Swain of Tifton; his grandchildren, Carrie and Daniel Simone, and Casey and Cindy Swain; and great grandchildren, Timothy Swain, John H. Swain, Kelly Ann Swain, Alex Swain, Amelia Simone and Charlotte Simone.
