Obituary

DUDLEY – Janet “Jan” (Barnes) Hanlon, 74, of West Main St., died Saturday, May 16, in Saint Vincent Hospital with her family at her side.

She leaves 3 sons, Wayne S. Hanlon and his companion Sylvia and James F. Hanlon and his companion Judy Kent, all of Horseheads, NY, and Mark T. Hanlon, whom she cared for; 4 grandchildren, Matthew S. Hanlon and his companion Caitlin of Maine, Deana M. Perez and her husband Dan of Connecticut, Kristopher J. Hanlon of New York and Lance Corporal Jason J. Hanlon, who is presently serving in Iraq and his companion Ansley, both of New York; 2 sisters, Pat Barnes of Connecticut and Shirley Andrews of Maine; a brother, Jim Barnes of Maine; nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her sister Margaret.

She was born in Bar Harbor, Maine, the daughter of James and Avis (Young) Barnes. She was raised in Old Orchard Beach. She lived in Oxford, Webster and Dudley most of her adult life. She graduated from Old Orchard Beach High School.

Janet was a spinner and weaver at various local mills, including Stevens Linen Associates in Dudley and Bates Shoe Company in Webster. She retired about 10 years ago.

She was a former member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Webster. She was an active member of the TSKK Women’s Pitch League in Webster. She enjoyed camping.

The funeral will be held Friday, May 22, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., Webster, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main St., Webster. Burial will be private. A calling period will be from 9:15 to 10:15 AM Friday, May 22, in the funeral home. Donations in her name may be made to either Cerebral Palsy of Mass., 43 Old Colony Ave., Quincy, MA 02170 or to Saint Vincent Hospital, 123 Summer St., Worcester, MA 01608.
