Obituary

Kathleen M. Greenhalgh, 81, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 17, 2009.

Born in Westerly, RI on April 17, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Margaret Sylvia. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, John Greenhalgh, her brother Donald and her granddaughter, Elizabeth Greenhalgh.

She was retired from the State of Connecticut as a librarian. She had also worked as a librarian in the Groton School System. A noted local historian and author, she had worked as a research librarian for the Indian and Colonial Research Center in Old Mystic and published two books, The History of West Mystic and The History of Old Mystic. Most recently, she served as secretary for the North Stonington Senior Center.

She is survived by her three sons, William J. Greenhalgh of Old Mystic, Barry E. Greenhalgh and his wife Susan of Pawcatuck, and Bruce M. Greenhalgh and his wife Janna of Westerly, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Thursday at 11:30am. Fr. Brian Romanowski, Pastor of St. Patrick Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Old Mystic. There are no visiting hours.
