Obituary

J.W. Giddens, 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, May 17 at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Wednesday, May 20 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. James Griffin and Rev. Talmadge Wilcox officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 Tuesday evening at funeral home.

Mr. Giddens was born February 16, 1918 in Irwin County to the late John Willie Giddens and the late Irene Moore Giddens Williams. He lived in the community most of his life. Mr. Giddens was a former employee of Fitzgerald Mills, Fitzgerald Coca Cola Bottling Company and was a retired agent with National Life & Accident Insurance Company. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Giddens was a former member and deacon of Northside Baptist Church and was currently a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon and was a member of the Golden Believers. He was a Mason and a member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Association

Mr. Giddens is survived by his wife, Sherrie Giddens of Fitzgerald; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette & Charles Pate of Harlem; brothers and sister-in-law, Ralph Giddens and Vernon Lee & Martha Giddens all of Augusta; step children, William Hinks, Jamie Hinks and Jennifer (Jonathan) Glass all of Fitzgerald and a grandson, Hayden Glass of Fitzgerald, several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Overstreet Giddens, a son, John W. Giddens, Jr., two brothers, Oris & Virgil Giddens and one sister, Mary Giddens Corley.
