GILBERT, RICHARD ARLEN
Richard Arlen Gilbert, 73, of Summerville, husband of Rose M. Gilbert, died Saturday, May 16, 2009 at his residence.
Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 11 o’clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, 303 S. Main Street, Summerville. Entombment will follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens Mausoleum, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville. A visitation will be held Monday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8 o’clock.
Mr. Gilbert was born January 19, 1936 in Greenville, SC, son of the late Jack Hopkins and Ruby Fennell Hopkins. He received an Associate of Arts Degree from Trident Technical College. Mr. Gilbert was a retiree from the United States Air Force and also retired from Linq in Summerville. He enjoyed golfing and was a volunteer with DAV, VA Hospital, AFB Pharmacy, VFW Post (Ladson) and Commander DAV Chapter 17. He was a member of Givhans Southern Methodist Church.
Survivors, including his wife, are one son; Richard A. Gilbert, II of Summerville, two daughters; Terri G. Redfern (Jay) of Jacksonville, FL and Cherri G. Martin (Brandon) of Summerville, one daughter-in-law; Mona H. Gilbert of Ladson, one brother; William J. Gilbert of Buchannon, WV, two sisters; Mary P. Stoner of Hollywood and Nancy J. Cline of Petersburg, VA and seven grandchildren; Justin Redfern, Lauren Redfern, Tripp Gilbert, Tyler Gilbert, Caroline Gilbert, Ashlyn Martin and Dylan Martin. He was predeceased by one brother; Ladson C. Gilbert and one sister; Alice Love.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
