Thelma L. Gallup, 88, of Londonderry, NH, wife of the late Floyd J. Gallup Jr., went home to the Lord on Wednesday, July 9, 2003. She was born in Dayton, Ohio on February 21, 1915, a daughter of the late Henry and Bess (Lyons) Jacobs. She was a graduate of the Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Dayton. Thelma’s spirit of adventure led her to travel and work in hospitals in several states, including New York, Florida and Arizona. While in Tucson, AZ, she met and married Floyd J. Gallup Jr. They lived in Mansfield, CT for 50 years, lovingly raising a family. Thelma was a dedicated and active member of her community in both a personal and professional way. She worked as a registered nurse in many settings as well as serving as a Girl Scout Leader, RN Red Cross Volunteer, and as a member of the Mansfield Volunteer Fire Company’s Women’s Auxiliary. She attended Living Way Assembly Church and United Baptist Church of Ashford, CT. Thelma and her husband Floyd built a home in Ruskin, FL where they wintered together for 20 wonderful years. In August 2000, she moved to Londonderry, where she and her daughter Lynne resided together. Thelma’s loving compassion for people, sense of humor, gift for storytelling, and sense of adventure, endeared her to the hearts of many.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandra G. Clark and her husband Jonathan of Ashford, CT, Lynne L. Gallup of Londonderry, Patricia Gallup and her husband Randall K. Minard O.D. of Keene, NH, seven grandchildren, Erika Bingham, Jennifer Cookson and her husband Matthew, Jonathan Clark and his wife Kayo, Erin Clark, Leeann Minard, May Minard, Amy Minard, four great grandchildren, Daniel Cookson, John Cookson, Paulina Clark, Claire Clark, one sister, Ethel Musser of Northridge, OH, one brother, Floyd Jacobs and his wife Joanne of West Carrollton, OH, several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 17th at 2:00pm at the United Baptist Church, Route 44, Ashford, CT. The family requests donations to the Girl Scouts of Swiftwater Council, 1 Commerce Dr., Bedford, NH 03110, or the Easter Seals of NH, Alzheimers Adult Daycare Program, 555 Auburn St., Manchester, NH 03103 or to the United Baptist Church, Route 44, Ashford, CT 06278. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry, NH are handling arrangements.
