Shirley A. (Guimont) Monteiro, 59, of New Bedford died Wednesday May 13, 2009 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the life long partner of the late John Monteiro.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Alfred and Jeannette (Caron) Jerome , she lived in Dartmouth and New Bedford for most of her life.
Shirley was a member of Susan A. Sullivan Temple #94.
Survivors include five children, Roger Monteiro, Christina Monteiro, Deanne Ray, Willard "Woody" Monteiro III, and Catherine Monteiro; her siblings, Yvette "Sparky" Bushaw, Robert Guimont, George Guimont, Lorraine Queripal, Pauline Holtz, Geraldine Jerome, Doris Guimont, and Red Jerome; her grandson whom she raised, Michael Monteiro and nine other grandchildren; one great-grandson; many nieces and nephews; and many foster children.
She was the grandmother of the late Roger Monteiro, Jr., and the sister of the late Richard and Roger Guimont.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 9:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4-8 PM. For directions and guestbook, please visit www. saundersdwyer.com.
