Obituary

Nathaniel Souto, 80, of New Bedford, died May 11, 2009 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Mary (Pina) Souto.
Born in Onset, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Souto, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Souto was formerly employed as a longshoreman for many years until his retirement. He had previously been employed as a construction worker.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Souto was a member of the International Longshoremen's Union Local 1413-1465. He loved spending time with his family. He was a devoted and loving father who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include three sons, Chris Vernon Souto of Miami, FL, and Nathan Souto and Wayne Curt Souto, both of New Bedford; two daughters, Leshia Jen Souto and Wanda Souto, both of New Bedford; a brother, Albert Souto of New Bedford; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Entombment will follow in Acushnet Cemetery.
