Methuen, MA – Alice “Avoa” (Freitas) Pinto, Ramos, 100, years died Sunday at Caritas Holy Family Hospital.
Alice was born December 13, 1908 in Madeira Island, Portugal daughter of Joseph and Theresa (Vieira) Freitas. Along with her family she came to this country as a very young child and for many years resided in Lawrence where she received her education.
Alice was an accomplished weaver learning the art while working for the Pacific Mills in Lawrence.
She was very active in the Portuguese community in Lawrence and was a longtime member of the Portuguese Club. Before its closing she was an active communicant of Sts. Peter and Paul’s Portuguese church in Lawrence.
Mrs Ramos loved going back to Madeira her birth place in Portugal for occasional visits. She enjoyed life and she enjoyed cooking her specialties for her family.
A longtime Lawrence and Methuen resident she was the widow of Charles Pinto and Richard Ramos. Survivors include her daughter Clarice G. and her husband Roland Tardugno of Methuen, grandchildren: Karen Wilson, Norman and wife Joanne Tardugno, Brian and his wife Lorie Tardugno, Neil and his wife Bonnie Tardugno, Barry Tardugno and his fiancé Colleen Bell, Janice and her husband John Spina, Ronald and his wife Linda Silva, and Sharon and husband Jeff Gallagher. 16 greatgrandchildren and 5 greatgreatgrandchildren.
Alice was predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law Beatrice and Joseph Silva, brothers Joseph and John Freitas, and her sister Constance Freitas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday morning at 9 o’clock in Saint Monica’s Church in Methuen with burial to follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery of Lawrence.
Friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 4-8 P.M. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence St. in Methuen.
