Obituary

Stephen O. McGowan, age 43, of Burlington formerly of Woburn, died suddenly and unexpectedly, May 10th, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center following a one car accident the previous night.

Born in Medford, Stephen was the very much loved son of Donald A. and Anna M. (Aquilino) McGowan of Burlington. He was the devoted brother of Patricia Moynihan of Tyngsboro and is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends. He is further survived by his long-time companion of 8 years, Jennifer Bouchard of Roslindale. His family will cherish all the loving memories that will forever be in their hearts.

Stephen was a very popular young man who's life and whose time here was taken from him far too soon. Stephen was a handsome young man who always had a smile for everyone and was very polite and generous to all who knew him. He had countless friends everywhere, including Verizon where he worked as a technician for 12 years.

Stephen was an avid sports fan who loved to attend major sporting events such as the Super Bowl, World Series and Final Four basketball games. He was an excellent athlete who played on summer all-star traveling teams when he was in Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. He earned his varsity letter playing basketball at Burlington High School where he graduated from in 1984. He also enjoyed playing golf and was always very competitive in spirit. The biggest joy of his sports life came while playing very competitive fast-pitch softball and playing for various teams that traveled around the country to compete in tournaments. He played for such all-star teams as those sponsored by Ocean Glass, Champions Pub, Westminster Chiropractic as well as "Legends" and "Destruction." He was a devastating hitter and was affectionately known by his teammates and many friends as "Magoo". His family and friends will greatly miss his engaging smile, keen sense of humor along with a hearty laugh and warm personality.
