Harold A. Boyer, of Plymouth, passed away on May 1st at the age of 101 at Radius Healthcare. Beloved husband of the late Ellen (Olsson), he is survived by his sons Alvin E. of NH and Emory D. of ME and his daughter Charlotte “Penny” Macomber of Brookline. He also leaves his daughter-in-law Bente Boyer of Kingston, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was the father of the late Richard O. Boyer. Harold grew up in Philadelphia and moved to Plymouth in 1921. He started H. A. Boyer Painting (aka Boyer’s Color Center) in 1928. Harold loved music. He played the drums and the xylophone. He worked at Howard Theater in Boston as a drummer, his job being to hit the cymbal when the girls kicked. He then worked at the Old Colony Theater in Plymouth as a drummer. He was a member of the Plymouth Symphony, the Pilgrim Brass Band, the Plymouth Rock Brass Band, the Brockton Symphony, the Coast Guard Band, the Joe Pioppi Band and the Aleppo Temple Shrine Band. In 1956, he played at the Champagne Pops, where he played an actual typewriter for “The Typewriter”. Harold also loved to play golf. He was also a lifetime member of the Plymouth Country Club. Harold was a member of the Old Colony Club where he was Past President in 1958 and was their oldest living past president with 50 years emeritus. He was also a lifetime member of the Sons of the American Revolution. A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 30th at 1 PM at the 1st Parish Church in Plymouth. There are no visiting hours and burial is private.
