PAXTON____John L. Misiewicz, 85, formerly of Paxton, died Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Life Care Center of Auburn. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Regina H. (Triboski) Misiewicz.
He leaves a niece, Rosalie Dubsky and her husband Richard of Auburn and a nephew, Richard Misiewicz of Venice, Florida. Two brothers, Anthony and Walter Misiewicz, preceded him in death. He was born in Worcester on September 9, 1923 son of the late Ludwig and Antonina (Stakun) Misiewicz. A native of Worcester, John graduated from Boys Trade High School.
Mr. Misiewicz enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he served as an airplane mechanic aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga. He was involved in campaigns in the Gilbert Islands and the Marshall Islands, and, along with fellow carrier the Enterprise, formed a night fighter task force for Iwo Jima. After the war, he returned to his job as a cabinet maker for Iaccarino & Son where he worked for 30 years. John was a longtime member of the Polish American Veterans of World War II, the Polish National Alliance, the White Eagle Club, Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and the Saint Mary’s Boosters.
The funeral will be held on Monday, May 11 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, Worcester with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. A calling hour will be held Monday, May 11 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Members of Polish American Veterans will meet at 9:30 a.m. during the calling hour to conduct their ritual.
