Helen P. (deNayre) Belt, 95, of Norton died peacefully on Thursday May 7, 2009 just hours before celebrating her 96th birthday at the Golden Living Center Garden Place in Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late Theodore “Ted” Belt who passed away on October 14, 1993
Born in Boston, MA on May 8, 1913 she was the dear daughter of the late Klaus and Klasina (Klynzoon) deNayre.
She grew up and was educated in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston and was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School.
58 years ago Helen and her late husband Ted moved to the grove section of Norton where they later built their first new home together. Mrs. Belt was a retired silver soldier and had last been employed at the Pittman & Keeler Co. in Attleboro before retiring. She had formerly worked at Whiting & Davis and at the Speidel Corporation and when she was younger had been employed at the Kundey-Betteney Co. in Boston.
An avid gardener Helen was a charter member and past president of the Chartley Garden Club and was also a member of the Attleboro and Norton Garden Clubs as well. She was a member of the Unitarian Congregational Church in Norton where she served on several church boards and committees and had also attended the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton.
Helen was quite active in Norton senior affairs and while residing at Woodland Meadows was a member of the tenants association as well as the Norton Senior Citizens and the Norton Council on Aging. She was very proud of her Dutch heritage and was her family’s last link of an entire generation bridging her Dutch ancestry back to the United States.
She and late husband were extensive world travelers and the couple had taken many trips back to Holland as well as visiting other various European countries. Her other hobbies included walking, reading and fishing.
She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews Mary Ellen Lavoie of South Attleboro, Jacqueline Jarvis of South Attleboro, Jacob Belt of Seekonk and Derek Belt of Attleboro as well as the Kukler family of Maine and Rhode Island, the Van Leeuwen family of Holland, the Belt family of Holland, the Zoet family of Holland, the Kleinsen-Vashon family of Holbrook, MA and her many friends and the loving staff members at the Golden Living Center Garden Place in Attleboro
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday May 13th at 11:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial will follow in the Norton Common Cemetery, Norton.
Visitation will be held prior to the services on Wednesday morning beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers Helen's family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Activities Fund at the Golden Living Center Garden Place 193 Pleasant St. Attleboro, MA 02703.
