Helen A. (Briggs) McPadden, 93, a longtime resident of Brockton, died Monday, May 4 at Colony House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Abington. She was the wife of the late James McPadden. She was born and educated in Brockton. Mrs. McPadden was a sales clerk in the Millinery Department at Gilchrist’s Department Store in Brockton for over 20 years before retiring over 20 years ago. During World War II, she worked for the War Department. She was also a realtor. She was a member and chaplain of the American Legion Post 89 Women’s Auxiliary in Stoughton. She was also a member of the Stoughton Historical Society and the Society of the Little Flower. She was a communicant of the Chapel at Westgate and enjoyed gardening. In the 1930’s she was voted “Miss Brockton.”
Mrs. McPadden is survived by her children, Marianne P. McPadden and James W. McPadden both of Brockton. She was the sister of the late Mary Lynch.
Funeral Prayers will be offered from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Friday, May 8 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday 5-8 PM. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Donations in Helen’s name may be made to Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
