Nathalie F. Sousa, 89, of New Bedford died Friday May 1, 2009 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Dr. Manuel F. Sousa and Joseph Furtado.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Silva) Alves, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Mrs. Sousa was a graduate of New Bedford High School and attended Campbell School of Bookkeeping.
She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Robert J. Furtado, and his wife Cynthia, of Harwich, MA; a granddaughter, Jo-Anne Gibbs, and her husband Thomas P., of Marion; two great-granddaughters, Sarah and Shannon Gibbs, both of Marion; a sister-in-law, Carmen Alves of New Bedford; a niece, Pamela Melo of Berkley; and a nephew, David Alves of Boston.
She was the sister of the late Lionel Alves.
At Nathalie's request, her private Funeral Service was held Tuesday, May 5th at the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford, followed by burial in St. John's Cemetery.
