William E. “Pop” Stack, Jr. 89 years, of Brockton, died May 4, 2009. Husband for 67 years of Helen L. (Russell) Stack. Born and raised in Brockton, son of the late William E. and Nora F. (Lyons) Stack. He was a World War II veteran who served in the US Navy and was a Firefighter for the City of Brockton for 35 years retiring in 1976. Following his retirement, Bill moved to Falmouth where he resided for 20 years, moved to Port Charlotte, FL, Village of Holiday Lakes for 13 years and returned to Brockton a year ago. He was a Master Carpenter, enjoyed gardening, traveling, spending time with his grandchildren, golfing at D.W. Fields Park and the Falmouth Country Club. Bill was a founding father of Brockton Youth Hockey and a Manager for the Downey Little League.
He is also survived by his children Stephen Stack and his wife Joan of Brockton, William E. Stack, III of Braintree, Nora J. Tobin and her husband Thomas of Plymouth, Mary Ann Milano and her husband Jim of Yarmouthport and Timothy C. Stack and his wife Donna of Bridgewater; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, 17 nieces and nephews, and a brother Joseph Stack of Brewster. He was the brother of the late Bea Norris, Charles Stack, Eleanor Willis and Catherine Wall.
Funeral Mass in Christ the King Parish/St. Colman Church Thursday at 9am. Burial at a later date in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. At Bill’s request visiting hours are omitted.
