Marcelle H. Smith, 84, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Sunday, May 3, 2009.
Funeral services will be held 4 P.M., Tuesday, May 5, 2009, in the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. B. J. Funk and Rev. Annette Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Monday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Smith was born October 27, 1924, in Mystic, Georgia to the late Matthew E. and Mary Lillie Luke Hunter. She was a homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother and was a seamstress for her family and community. She was an active member of St. Peters United Methodist Church, serving as Church treasurer, communion steward and member of the choir. She was a 1941 graduate of Ocilla High School and had lived in Ben Hill and Irwin Counties all of her life.
She is survived by ten of her eleven children: Juanita Gatch of Charleston, SC, Jackie (Tim) Walston of Aurora, Colorado, Ward Smith of St. Petersburg, Florida, Mabel (Perry) Stallings of Raleigh, North Carolina, Ben (Glenda) Smith of Lyons, GA, Ralph (Gwen) Smith of Fitzgerald, GA, Kenneth (Marcia) Smith of Avondale Estates, GA, Alice (Billy) Prescott of Fitzgerald, GA, Rhonda (Robert) Pridgen of Wray, GA, Dorothy (Steve) Reed of Macon, GA and a daughter-in-law Ginny Smith of Lexington, SC; twenty one grandchildren and thirty two great grandchildren. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Smith, one son Matthew Smith, a daughter-in-law Linda Smith and one brother, Joseph Duncan Troupe.
