Obituary

Richard A. Giannetti, 74 of Franklin died May 3 in the Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Judith A. (DeFlaminio) Giannetti for the past 48 years.
Born in Wrentham, July 13, 1934, the son of the late Richmond and Julia (Bernardi) Giannetti, Mr. Giannetti was raised in Wrentham and had lived in Franklin since 1961.
Mr. Giannetti had lived in Dennis for a brief time some years ago.
A graduate of Wrentham High School, he was an outstanding three star athlete there.
He had played football, basketball and was a pitcher on the baseball team. Mr. Giannetti also was a graduate of Dean Jr. College.
Mr. Giannetti played for several years with the Detroit Tigers Triple A farm team.
In later years, he was an umpire in the area for high school and little league games.
Mr. Giannetti had recently been a "runner" for Keigan Chevrolet in Franklin.
He had previously worked for over 30 years as store manager with the Star Market Company and Brunelli’s Market in Franklin.
Mr. Giannetti served in the Army during the Korean War.
Sports, especially baseball and football, and the Red Sox and the Celtics in particular were Mr. Giannetti’s favorite teams to follow in recent years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Richard “Rick” A. Giannetti Jr. and his wife, Alison of Bellingham and daughter, Kimberley Cogliano and her husband, Tony of Bellingham.
He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Kennedy of Middleton and his grandchildren, Anthony, Taylor, Tia and Tessa.
His memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 7 in St. Mary’s Church at 9:00 a.m.
Burial will be at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. in Franklin.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
