DAVIS, JAMES RUFUS

James Rufus Davis, 70, of Summerville, husband of Linnea S. Davis, died Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Trident Medical Center.

Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 1 o’clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, 303 S. Main Street, Summerville. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12 o’clock until time of service.

Mr. Davis was born November 23, 1938 in Twin City, GA, son of the late Robbie Isaac Davis and Loree Cooper Davis. He served in the United States Army for twenty years and retired as a Master Sergeant, having served two tours of duty in Vietnam during which time he received the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal with Valor. He was also the Assistant Commandant for the NCO Academy at Fort Stewart, GA. After retirement he owned and operated his own trucking company for fifteen years.

Survivors, including his wife Linnea of forty-six years, are three sons; Steven J. Davis of Summerville, James R. Davis (Angela) of Waterville, ME and Brian J. Davis of Summerville, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three sisters and one brother.
