Obituary

Gerald L. Capron, 73, of Windham, NH died Thurs. April 30th at Pleasant Valley Nursing Home, Derry, NH.

Jerry grew up in Marlborough, NH graduating from Marlborough High School in 1954 later graduating from NH Technical Institute with an Electronics Degree. He was a member of the 4-H Club often winning awards for his gardens and animals. Jerry was a Boy Scout and Explorer with Troop 14 and was a member of the Marlborough Federated Church and sang in the choir.

Jerry served in the National Guard, then enlisted in the US Army and was a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. He became a member of the 11th Airborne Division and served in Germany.

Jerry worked for Raytheon in Lowell, MA for 33 years retiring in 1994. From the early 70’s, Jerry has worked in Scouting, serving as a Unit Commissioner, a Scoutmaster, a Wood Badge trainer, he was on the District Commissioner Staff and Committee and with the District’s Advancement Committee. He was recognized with the Commissioners Arrowhead Award, the Commissioners Key, the George Meaney Union Scouters Award, the DWC Silver Beavers Award and the Award of Merit. Jerry had worked at the Lawrence L. Lee Museum, Max I. Silber Library for over 15 years.

Jerry served for 15 years on the Windham Conservation Commission and also on Windham’s Committee for the Handicapped. He was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #109 in Windham.

He was predeceased by his wife Lillian (Martin) Capron.

Calling hours are Mon. May 4th from 10 – 11 AM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. A Funeral Service will follow at 11 AM. Burial is in Cemetery on the Plain, Windham.
