Richard M. Bishop, 71, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, May 1, 2009, at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Sunday, May 3 at the Pine Level United Methodist Church with Rev. Annette Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9 Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Bishop was born July 12, 1937 in Fitzgerald to the late Bennie A. Bishop and the late Isabelle Garlock Bishop. He lived in the community since 1997 and was a former resident of Atlanta and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Mr. Bishop was a military police in the United States Army, serving in Germany. He was a retired brick mason and a member of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, Local 33. Mr. Bishop was a member of Pine Level United Methodist Church, an avid fisherman and a loyal University of Georgia Bulldog fan.
He is survived by a sister, Eloise B. Ellis of Moultrie; brother & sister-in-law, William A. & Esther Bishop of Fitzgerald; nephew & caregiver, Terry & Pam Bishop of Fitzgerald; nephews and nieces, Craig & Angie Bishop and Audie Bishop all of Fitzgerald, Chuck & Meredith Ellis of Vienna and Karen & Franklin Dell of Moultrie; stepson, and his wife, Calvin & Susan Mooney of Phoenix, AZ as well as several great nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Audrey Bishop.
