Augusta- Mr. Fred Eugene Darnell, 85, beloved husband of 62 years of Mrs. Mary Katherine Darnell, entered into rest on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel with the Rev. Donald Prosser officiating. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Darnell was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by children, Larry Darnell and wife, Julie, Dennis Darnell and wife, Maxine, and Marsha Johnson and husband, Danny, his two grandchildren, Charles Johnson and wife, Joann, and Angela Griffin and husband, Travis , and four great grandchildren, Evan Johnson, Emily Johnson, Tyler Griffin, and Madison Griffin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hardin and Mary Starks Darnell, and his brothers and sister, Chester Darnell, Roy Darnell and Vada Darnell Story.
Pallbearers will be Charles Johnson, Danny Johnson, Travis Griffin and Dennis Gay.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, May 1, 2009 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
