Obituary

Mrs. Elizabeth McCranie, 90, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Monday, May 4 at the First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald with Dr. Michael Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9 Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. McCranie was born February 3, 1919 in Fitzgerald to the late Warren E. and Ruby Walker Saunderson. She lived in the community most of her life, graduating from Fitzgerald High School in 1937. Mrs. McCranie was a 1939 graduate of Middle Georgia College in Cochran and a 1945 graduate of Georgia State Women’s College in Milledgeville with a degree in Science & Education. She taught English and Social Science in high school in Ocilla, Albany and Fitzgerald for many years. After her retirement, she became a happy and contented wife and homemaker. She and Manning traveled extensively. They were favorite visitors of many family members. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald and a member of the Ben Hill-Irwin Retired Educators Association.

Mrs. McCranie is survived by a sister, Constance Leach of Tampa and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-three years, Manning McCranie, brothers, James and Edgar Saunderson and a sister, Ruth Smart.
