James J. Connelly, 95, a resident of Winchester for almost 60 years, passed away April 28th after a brief illness. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Thomas and Winifred (Jones) Connelly. He was raised and educated in Medford, before coming to Winchester. In Winchester he was the friendly owner of the Winchester Camera Shop, a fixture in Winchester for over 59 years, until his retirement in 1990. An Army Air Corps. veteran of World War II, Jim was active with the VFW Post 3719 and the American Legion Post 101 Winchester/Woburn. Mr. Connelly was also a long-time usher at St. Mary’s Church in Winchester, a member of the Winchester Auxiliary Police and the Knights of Columbus, Council 210. He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (Daley), the loving father of Janet E. Fraser and her husband Hugh of Stoneham, Joan B. Slavin and her husband Kevin of Winchester and James J. Connelly, Jr. and his wife Theresa of McGraw, NY, and the dear brother of the late Thomas and Winifred Connelly. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His Funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Friday May 1, at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester at 10AM. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Thurs. from 4-8PM. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Winchester.
