Kenneth Wayne Hamer, 84, a longtime resident of Derry, died Monday at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center. He was born in Dracut, MA August 11, 1924 to the late Herbert L. and Marguerite (Moran) Hamer, and was a 1942 graduate of Pinkerton Academy. He worked his professional career in the meter department of Public Service of New Hampshire for over 30 years, retiring in 1977. He proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Navy, earning the WWII Victory Medal; European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Medal; American Theatre Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal; Philippine Liberation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946.
He leaves his beloved wife of 60 years, Pauline (Cassidy) Hamer, their devoted children, Larry Hamer and his wife Nancy of New Durham, NH and Lynne Byram and her husband Kevin of Somersworth, NH. Mr. Hamer also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Jason Byram, Lance Byram and Melissa Adams, his loving great grandson Ethan Byram and his caring brother, H. Lowell Hamer of Derry. His siblings, Virginia Demester, Russell Hamer and Channing Hamer, predeceased Kenneth.
Calling hours were held Thursday from 5-7pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. The funeral services were held Friday at 10am in the funeral home, with burial that followed in Forest Hill Cemetery.
