Worcester—Julia I. (Dahlgren) Carlson of 87 Briarwood Circle died Monday, April 27, 2009, in the Knollwood Nursing Center. Mrs. Carlson was born on March 26, 1907 in New York City. She was the daughter of Oscar and Sigred (Johanson) Dahlgren.
She leaves a daughter, Sonya L. Smith of Worcester; a son, retired Navy Commander Kenneth L. Carlson of Danbury, CT; six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; and relatives in Massachusetts; Greenwich, CT; and Sweden.
She and the late S. Leander Carlson observed their 52nd wedding anniversary in 1979. Leander died in August 1979. Julia resided in Worcester since 1941. Mrs. Carlson was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of Vasa Order of America. She was a retiree of Norton Company.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 30, in Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster St. Worcester. The Rev. Susan Nachtigal will officiate. Burial will be in the New Swedish Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be held from 5-7 p.m., Weds., April 29, at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. Worcester. The family requests flowers be omitted and suggests contributions be made to the Memorial Fund of Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster St, Worcester MA 01609 or to the Activities Fund of the Elms Assisted Living Residence and/or Knollwood Nursing Center—both are part of the Briarwood Retirement Community, 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester MA 01606.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Elms at Briarwood and Knollwood Nursing Center for the excellent care which they gave to Julia.
