Asuncion "Sue" (Funcia) Cardoza, 77, of New Bedford died July 5, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Anthony S. "Tony" Cardoza who passed away May 1, 1992, four days before their 41st wedding anniversary.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Manuel and Diolinda (Machado) Funcia, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was a graduate of the last January class of New Bedford High School, class of 1945. She worked at the former Soule Mill in the payroll department, as secretary at Salco Industries and finally in the payroll department at Morse Cutting Tools until her retirement.
Mrs. Cardoza enjoyed traveling with her husband, gardening, cooking, reading and always the company of her pet dog.
She was a warden at the voting polls for the City of New Bedford for several years.
Survivors include her sister, Deolinda Funcia of New Bedford; 3 nieces, Phyllis Jean Francis, Diane Alphonse and Rachel Cardoza, all of Florida; her godson, Peter Anthony Morin of Connecticut, and many cousins.
