Mary (Nashawaty) Cahaly, 87, of Marlborough formerly of West Roxbury, passed away peacefully with family by her bedside, on Sunday, April 26th. Mary was a playful and happy woman who took special joy from the smallest things in life. One of her greatest pleasures were her summer trips to the island of Nantucket, with her beloved daughters, to celebrate her birthday each July. She will be remembered in a special way on the island. Over the years, Mary worked as a sales clerk at Sears and at Filene's in Chestnut Hill in the children's department. She was also a waitress at Valle's Steak House in Newton. Originally from West Roxbury, she followed her husband to Greenville, S.C. to raise her children in the early years. Mary returned to west Roxbury in 1962, and later settled in Marlborough. Mary will be fondly remembered for her big bright smile, infectious laugh and happy, colorful outfits. “Pink” was her color. For several years, Mary was helped by some wonderful care givers, whom we refer to as “Earth Angels”, who treated her like their own mother. The entire family expresses their sincerest gratitude and would like to personally thank Kristin, Nacia, Lina, Charlotte & Harriet for their dedicated and loving service.
Mary was the dear and devoted wife of the late Faris Charles Cahaly. Loving mother of Charles Cahaly and his wife Joanne of FL, Terrie Skillings and her husband Mark of Littleton, Rhonda Knoek and her former husband Roman of GA, Roxane Mellor and her husband Tom of Marlborough and the late Joyce Ann Cahaly. Adored grandmother “Tete” of Taryn, Geoffrey, Kimberly, Lyndsi, Britney, Courtney and Russ. Dear sister of the late Agnes George, and Aleck, Mitchell and Mattie Nashawaty. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
Mary's Funeral Service was held in the Church of St. John of Damascus on April 30, 2009. Contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 311 Arsenal St. Watertown, MA 02472.
