Mary Elizabeth McCain, 67, of Pope, MS passed away April 27, 2009 at her home. She was born to the late Clyde Avery and Mary Evelyn Peeples Allred in Bruce, MS. She graduated from Draughon’s Business College in Memphis, TN and attended Holiday Inn University where she learned culinary arts and restaurant management. Mary was well known as a chef, restaurant owner, and an antique dealer. She was a member of Taylor Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Samaritan Rebekah Lodge, #38 IOOF. She held positions as Worthy Matron, Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge and president of IARA of MS.
The visitation will be Wednesday, April 29, 2009 from 5:00 until 7:30 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 30, 2009 with Bro. Jimmy Sartain officiating. Burial will be at Yocona Cemetery in Lafayette County with Patrick Peacock, Joel Person, Allen Hunter, Cody Shuffield, Steve Shuffield, Paul Fisher, and Robert Glen Person, Jr. serving as pallbearers. Wes Blackwood will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Mrs. McCain is survived by her husband, Samuel Edward McCain of Pope, MS; two daughters, Cecelia Morgan McCain of Pope, MS and Cynthia Marie McCain of Memphis, TN; one sister, Janice Shuffield (Odie) of Water Valley, MS; and two brothers, Bobby Clyde Allred of Nesbit, MS and Samuel Allen Allred of Batesville, MS.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Clyde Lee Britton McCain, a sister, Dorothy Peacock, and three brothers, Tommy Allred, Billie Allred, and Tony Allred.
