Medford - Paul F. "Doc" Smith, age 45, died Friday, July 4, at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital after a courageous 13 month battle with cancer.
He was born in Somerville, Feb. 2, 1958, a son of Isobel "Belle" (DuPont) Smith of Medford, and the late Frederick L. Smith Sr., who died last September 26th.
He was raised in Medford and graduated Medford Vocational High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted into the U.S. Army, and served in Weizberg, Germany, at the Army Supply Depot for three years.He was currently employed as an electric motor repairman for the First Electric Motor Service Company in Woburn.
As a resident of Medford, he was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
He will be best remembered for his love of sport fishing, both salt and fresh water.
Besides his mother, he is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Warren P. and his wife Leslie J. (Hiser) Smith of No. Chelmsford, Frederick L. and his wife Valerie (Brown) Smith Jr. of Manchester, NH, a sister and brother-in-law, Kelley A. and her husband David M. Videtti of Chelsea, many aunts, uncles and cousins, 5 nieces and nephews, Joshua, age 8, God-son Benjamin, age 6, God-daughter Maddison, age 5, Sawyer, age 2, and Simon, 8 months.
He was also best friends and fishing buddy of Tom and Karen of Wakefield.
Relatives and friends will be received Tuesday afternoon, from 5 until 9 p.m. in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave., MEDFORD, MA, phone (781) 395 0128.
Funeral services Tuesday evening at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Following cremation, interment will be private. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, 20 Speen St, Framingham, MA 011701 will be appreciated.
