Obituary

WEBSTER – William J. Gevry, Sr., 77, of 9 East Main St., died Friday, April 24, at home after being stricken ill.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, Barbara A. (Warner) Gevry; 6 children, William J. Gevry, Jr. of Oxford, James M. Gevry, Timothy P. Gevry, Deborah M. Gevry, Rodney A. Gevry and Kenneth W. Gevry, all of Webster; a brother, Howard Gevry of Webster; 3 sisters, Joyce Bond, Jane Leigh and Pauline Keefer, all of Indiana; 13 grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a son Norman in 1974, by 2 brothers Kenneth and Donald Gevry and by a sister, Gloria Robidoux.

He was born in Dudley, the son of Joseph W. and Barbara (Hoye) Gevry. He lived in Dudley and Charlton before moving to Webster at the time of his marriage.

Mr. Gevry was a machine operator at Sandlerette Shoe Company and then at Anglo Fabrics Company, retiring in 1995.

He was a former member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He enjoyed auto racing, bowling and fishing. In his younger years, he raised birds.

The funeral will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 29, at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main Street. (Please meet at the church.) Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. Calling hours at Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., will be from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday, April 28.
