WILMINGTON - Frances G. (Amato) Dec, age 71, a retired Licensed Practical Nurse at the Tewksbury Hospital, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon at her Wilmington home. She was the wife of the late John R. Dec who died in 1989.
She was born in Winthrop, November 11, 1937, one of six children of the late Anthony and Gertrude (Seavey) Amato. She lived in East Boston until the age of thirteen, when her family moved to Wilmington. She remained a lifelong resident of Wilmington.
She worked as a traffic supervisor for the Town of Wilmington, and served as an Auxiliary Police Officer. She also worked as a keypunch operator at the Internal Revenue Service Center in Andover. She graduated the Tewksbury Hospital School of Nursing, and became a L.P.N. at the hospital until her retirement.
She was described as having unselfishly devoted her life to her family.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra F. Mattera and her husband David of Ipswich, Carol A. Roux and her husband Eugene Jr. of Tewksbury; three grandchildren, Frances G. Dingle of CA, Lawrence Dingle of Wilmington, and Crystal and her husband Chris Stairs of Lowell; two sisters, Patricia Amato of Danvers, Rose Sweeney and her husband Dennis of WI; a brother John Amato of WI; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also mother of the late Susan G. Roberts, who died in 1999, and sister of the late Anthony Amato and Barbara Gosslin.
Her Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, April 29, in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, Wilmington. Burial was in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
