Mary E. Martin, 77, of Alton, NH, died Friday, April 24, 2009 in the Maine Medical Center, Portland, ME. Mrs. Martin was born in South Hampton, NY on March 25, 1932, a daughter of the late Lawrence H. and Helen L. (Golesky) Francis. She was a resident of the Belknap area since 2003, formerly living in Dorchester, MA. She grew up in South Boston and graduated from South Boston High School. Mrs. Martin worked for the New England Telephone Company in the Boston area. In her younger years she enjoyed going out to the South Boston Yacht Club, dancing and playing cards. Following the arrival of her children she became a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. She also enjoyed knitting, reading, painting, drawing and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ellen Sidlik of Chester, NH and Diane E. Marsan of Alton, two sons, Thomas J. Martin of Franklin, MA and Ronald F. Martin of Chester, five grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, a brother, Robert Francis of Brockton, MA, a sister, Helen "Bunny" Hellen of Goffstown, NH and also by nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald J. Martin in 1995 and by a sister, Peggy Celorier.
Visiting hours were held on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 from 1-5pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. A funeral service was held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 5:00pm, following the visiting hours. The burial was held at 11:00 Thursday in St. Joseph's Cemetery, 990 Lagrange St., W. Roxbury, MA.
