
Sylvia Payne (Kaplan) of Chelsea and formerly of Newton died on April 24, 2009. She was 93 years old. Sylvia was the devoted wife of the late Albert C. Payne.
Sylvia was born in Chelsea and educated in the Chelsea schools and high school. She was the owner of Chestnut Hill Homes in Chestnut Hill, MA. Sylvia was a life member of Hadassah and a member of Temple Emeth in Brookline as well as the Real Estate Brokers Association.
Sylvia was the devoted mother of Barbara Goren and her husband James, Michael Payne and his wife Suzanne, and the late Lawrence “Lawry” Payne. She was the dear sister of Irene Greenberg and her husband the late Philip Greenberg, and the late Irving Kaplan and the late Ann Houdash. Sylvia was the loving grandmother of Kyle Gore and his wife Sarah and Denise Scanlon and her husband Laurence. She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services at the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave., (Cary Sq.) Chelsea on Sunday, April 26 at 1:00 PM. Contributions in Sylvia’s memory may be made to the Lawrence Payne Memorial Fund, c/o Newton South High School, 140 Brandeis Rd., Newton Centre, MA 02459.
