Richard E. Hayes, 64, of Whitman, died Wednesday April 22nd in the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital after a period of failing health.
He was the son of the late Ralph W. and Eleanor M. (Travers) Hayes.
Born in Boston and brought up in Whitman he was a graduate of Whitman-Hanson High School.
Richard was a United States Marine during the Vietnam era serving from 1963-1966 and was a member of the American Legion Post 22 of Whitman.
He worked as a truck driver for the Boston Globe and Boston Herald and was a member of the Teamsters Union.
He loved camping, motorcycling, watching old movies and was an avid pool player. He enjoyed Bible study with his friends.
He is survived by his brothers John L. Hayes and family of Plymouth and Robert W. Hayes and family of Hanson.
His services will be held on Sunday April 26th at 7:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will be at a later date. Visiting hours will be held 3 hours prior to his service from 4:00-7:00PM. In lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans 17 Court Street, Boston, MA 02108
