Obituary

Mr. Richard F. Lucas of Medford, passed away in Florida on Monday, April 13, 2009. He was the beloved husband of nearly 50 years of Nicole (DeVlaminck) Lucas.
Mr. Lucas was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, on November 21, 1936, a son of the late George and Mary (Ring) Lucas. He was a graduate of St. Joseph School in Somerville as well as Somerville High School and New England University. Richard enlisted in the US Marine Corps at Boston on December 9, 1954 and received his honorable discharge from Boston on December 8, 1957. He attained the rank of Corporal and served as a heavy vehicle operator, while in the Marines. Following his military service, Mr. Lucas spent many years as an Industrial Mechanical Specialist at Polaroid in Waltham for more than 30 years. Richard was a long time communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Malden and was also a member of the Irish American Club for many years.
In his spare time, Mr. Lucas enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Red Sox fan. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his five beloved grandchildren.
Besides his loving wife, Nicole, he will be very sorely missed by one daughter and one son-in-law; Renee and her husband Darren Domegan of Medford, one son and one daughter-in-law; Richard Jr., and his wife Janice Lucas of Reading, two brothers; George and Danny Lucas, both of Arlington and five grandchildren; Darren Jr. and Lucas Domegan, both of Medford and Mark, Rachel and Richard Lucas III, all of Reading.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden, Saturday at 10:30 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Visiting hours were held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Friday, from 3 to 7 PM. Interment was private.
