Mary (Azevedo) Moniz, 89, of Norton and Hudson, Florida died after a brief illness on Tuesday April 21, 2009 at the Life Care Center of New Port Richey in Florida. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Moniz who passed away on September 28, 1990.
Born on Madeira Island in Portugal on March 22, 1920 she was a loving daughter of the late Adelino and Carolina (Sousa) Fernandes.
As a young girl her family moved from Madeira Island and settled in Norton. After marrying her late husband Joseph she started her own family to whom she was a dedicated homemaker to.
Her family and gardening were her greatest pleasures in life and because of her great talent with flowers she was affectionately known around town as “The Flower Lady”.
A lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton, Mary also enjoyed attending St. James the Apostle Catholic Church while staying in Hudson, Florida.
She is survived by her dear and devoted children David D. Moniz and his companion Gerry of South Pasadena, Florida, Therese M. Colaprete and her husband Francis of Hudson, Florida and Nancy A. Precourt and her fiancé Andy of St. Petersburg, Florida. Mary is also survived by her cherished 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephew.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday May 1st at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 133 South Worcester St. Norton. Burial will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday April 30th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
