Obituary

BEVERLY: George Perry Silveira, 79, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 21, 2009. He was the husband of the late Barbara A. (Webb) Silveira who died in 2000.
Born in Methuen on May 30, 1929, he was the son of the late Manuel and Adelaide (Costa) Silveira. He had resided in Dracut for many years before moving to Beverly in 1954.
George was employed in the mechanical maintenance department at the New England Power Plant in Salem for thirty-nine years before his retirement. He enjoyed the many friendships he had as a mall walker and as a member of the Beverly YMCA. He also loved to work in his yard, dancing on Saturday nights and the time spent summering on Lake Winnipesaukee. His family was most important to him and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna L. and Christopher A. Mitchell of Beverly and Joy L. and John K. Rainville of Hamilton, four grandchildren, Scott C. Mitchell, M.D. of Atlanta, GA, Amy Mitchell George and her husband, Brendan of Danvers, Katie E. Rainville of Beverly and Stephen G. Rainville of San Francisco, CA and two great-granddaughters, Savannah Mitchell of Atlanta and Brianna George of Danvers. He was also predeceased by a sister, Evelyn H. Silveira and a brother, Joseph P. Silveira.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday evening in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Funeral services will be privately held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Jimmy Fund, 44 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02115.
