Rev. Sherwood Bryant Becker, 79 of Medway died April 19 at home. He was the husband of Jessie J. (Booth) Becker for the past 57 years.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, February 24, 1930, the son of the late Clarence and Lillian (Butler) Becker, the Rev. Becker was raised and had lived on Long Island, New York for many years. He had been a resident of Medway since 1993.
The Rev. Becker was a graduate of Barrington College and attended Moody Bible Institute, Westminster Theological Seminary and the Reformed Episcopal Seminary.
The Rev. Becker had been the pastor of the Grace Community Baptist Church in Cumberland, Rhode Island for 25 years.
He had previously been the Chaplain at Cornell University.
He was a member of the National Association of College and University Chaplains, the National Association of Evangelicals, and had been a chaplain in the civil Air Patrol.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Lois Stickler of Towaco, New Jersey, Bonnie Tetrault of Medway, Carolyn Richardson of Raynham, Peggy Steele of Columbus, Mississippi and Nancy Hicks of Mebane, North Carolina.
He was the brother of Rev. Robert Becker of Landing New Jersey.
He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held privately with burial taking place at Evergreen Cemetery in West Medway.
