RESCA, Anthony J. "Joe", Chelsea Firefighter, retired- Of Lunenburg, formerly of Chelsea, April 19th at 85 years of age. Beloved husband of the late Caroline "Carol" (Zaremski). Devoted father of Joseph A. Resca and his wife Heidi of Groton. Cherished grandfather "Peepa" of Anthony, Nicholas and Bianca Resca. Dear brother of Lousie Resca of Saugus, Lawrence Resca and his wife Cecile of Deerfield Beach, FL and the late Francis, Frederick and Arthur Resca. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral from the Smith Funeral Home, 125 Washington Avenue, CHELSEA on Thursday, April 23rd at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Michael the Archangel Chapel on the campus of the Chelsea Soldiers Home, 91 Crest Avenue, Chelsea at 10 o'clock. Visiting Hours in the Smith Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Expressions of sympathy in Joe's name may be made to the Chelsea Firefighters Relief Association, PO Box 505607, Chelsea, MA 02150 or to the Soldiers Home Family Council, c/o QMLTC, 91 Crest Avenue, Chelsea, MA 02150.
A lifelong resident of Chelsea until moving to Lunenburg in the early 90's, Joe passed away at the Chelsea Soldiers Home early Sunday morning where he had been receiving supportive care for less then a week. A Chelsea firefighter for 34 years, he was appointed a reserve firefighter on February 13, 1950 and a permanent firefighter on June 6, 1955. A member of the PPC he also was also a member of the United States Army during WW II and the Korean Conflict.
