Kenneth N. "Big Daddy" Leighton, Sr., 60, of New Bedford died July 1, 2003 at home after a sudden illness.
He was the son of Rose (Almeida) Leighton-Britto of New Bedford and the late Felipe Leighton. He was the step-son of John Britto of New Bedford.
Mr. Leighton was born in New Bedford and lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was formerly employed by several local fish houses for many years until his retirement. He also was a bartender at several local clubs.
Mr. Leighton was an avid card player and pool player at Ronnie's Cafe and enjoyed watching sports.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Survivors include his mother; his step-father; his fiancée, Linda L. Borges of New Bedford; a daughter, Tracey K. Nieuwenhuizen of New Bedford; a son, Kenneth N. Leighton, Jr. of New Bedford; 4 grandchildren, Jade, Kiana, Dalton and Kenneth, III; a great-grandson, Glenn Westgate, Jr.; several nieces and nephews.
He was the sister of the late Claire M. Leighton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordThursday, July 3rd at 10 AM.
Visiting hours Wednesday, July 2nd from 4-8 PM.
