Mr. A.O. Stone, Jr., 87, of Fitzgerald died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Saturday, April 18 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald with Rev. Michael Slaven officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery, Ben Hill County The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 on Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Stone was born January 3, 1922 in Ben Hill County to the late Arxty O. and Eula Carroll Stone Walker. He moved back to the community in 1981 from Colorado. Mr. Stone was a retired produce farmer, coal miner and a former employee of Fitzgerald Mills. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Stone was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by a son, David Stone of Canyon City, CO and a daughter, Ruth White of Penrose, CO; sisters and brother-in-law, Bertha Stone Kohler of Conyers and Ilah Lee Stone & Robert Huellemeier of Macon and 2 grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Atencio Stone and three sisters, Sarah Joyce Stone Murray, Dorothy Clifford Stone Balko and Mary Gladys Stone Williamson.
