Mary B. "Mamie" Curran, a 15 year resident of Malden and former resident of Charlestown and Dungarvan, County Waterford, Ireland, died on Tuesday April 14, 2009 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose following an extended illness. She was 93 years old.
Mamie was born in Dungarvan, County Waterford, Ireland on August 19, 1915. She grew up there and attended schools there. She moved to the United States in 1926 and settled in Charlestown where she worked for several Catholic parishes in the area. She was a member of The Waterford Club and The Shamrock Social and Charitable Society.
Mamie is the beloved daughter of the late Maurice and Margaret (Foley) Curran. She is the devoted sister of the late Edmund Curran, Maurice Curran and Josie Crotty. She is the dear and loving aunt of Margie Drummey, Theresa Woodhouse, Maureen Celata, Jim Curran and her 15 grandnieces and grandnephews. She is the dear friend of May Lydon and Kay Dunne.
Mamie's Funeral will be held on Saturday April 18, 2009 at 10 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Friday April 17, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
