Obituary

NEW BEDFORD — Marion Browne Richards, 90, of Dartmouth, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Thornton M. Richards Jr.

Born in Fairhaven, she was the daughter of the late Henry D. H. Browne and the late Florence Stevens Browne and lived in this area most of her life.

Marion was a graduate of Wheaton College and a member of the Unitarian Memorial Church in Fairhaven where she lived for many years before moving to Dartmouth. She served as a town meeting member, a trustee of the Millicent Library, board member and treasurer of the Association for the Relief of Aged Women, the Ladies Branch of the New Bedford Port Society and the Old Dartmouth Historical Society.

For twenty-five years, Marion was employed at the Fairhaven National Bank.

Mother of the late Thornton M. Richards III, she is survived by her sons, Peter Hamilton Richards and his wife, Susan of Jericho, Vermont and Christopher Davis Richards and his wife, Christine of Mattapoisett; four grandchildren, Sarah, Benjamin, Parker and Molly. She was also the sister of the late Robert Browne and Priscilla Galloway.

Her graveside service will take place in the South Dartmouth Cemetery on Friday, April 24th at 1 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made in her name to Cause for Paws, 11 Ridgewood Road, Mattapoisett, MA 02739.
