Anne M. Cataldo Paskevich, 57, of Sutton died April 13 in the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester after being stricken at home on March 11. She was the beloved wife of Peter Paskevich.
Born in Milford on January 25, 1952 the daughter of Virginia (Catalano) Cataldo of Franklin and the late Henry C. Cataldo, Dr. Cataldo was raised in Franklin and had lived in Sutton for the past 8 years.
Dr. Cataldo received a degree in Medical Technology from Harvard University in 1974, and an A.B. in Biology from Emmanuel College in 1974. She was awarded the Ph.D. in Neuropathology from the University of Maryland at Baltimore in 1986.
Dr. Cataldo was the Director of the Laboratories for Molecular Neuropathology at McLean Hospital, and an associate professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. During her career, Dr. Cataldo made great strides in advancing our knowledge of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) through her groundbreaking research on the cellular mechanisms associated with the pathogenesis of sporadic and familial forms of Alzheimer’s. Dr. Cataldo published more than 50 original reports, numerous book chapters as well as review articles, and played a principal role in the development of several patents.
Dr .Cataldo was an active member of the MDCN II study section at the National Institutes of Health and an ad hoc reviewer for various NINDS study sections at NIH, including the Neuroregeneration Program Study Section. She served on the editorial board of the Journal of Neurochemical Research, Neurobiology of Aging, and the American Journal of Pathology. Dr. Cataldo was an active participant in the Society for Neuroscience and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. In 2004 Dr. Cataldo was the invited plenary lecturer for the Ninth International Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders held in Philadelphia PA. She was the Principal Investigator on numerous federal and foundation grants.
Dr. Cataldo loved the ocean and looked forward to her traditional annual family vacation in Maine.
She was passionate about her work, family and friends, and was known for her generosity and kind heart. She was a person that many were privileged to know, and their lives were enriched by her presence, whether as a collaborator, colleague, friend or relative.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her stepdaughter, Laurie Paskevich of Watertown and stepson, Andrew Paskevich of Sutton.
She is also survived by her brother Henry “Rick” Cataldo of Danbury, Ct. and her sister, Donna Taft and husband, Jim of Avon, Ct.
She also is survived by her uncle, Robert Catalano of Franklin and nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, April 18 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. in Franklin at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church in Franklin at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be private.
Calling hours will be on Friday from 4-8 p.m.
