Roberta Blair, 79, of Chester, NH, died Monday, April 13, 2009 in the Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH. Mrs. Blair was born in Stoneham, MA on February 2, 1930, daughter of the late William J. and Muriel (Swan) Conway, Sr.. She had been a resident of Chester since 1964. Mrs. Blair graduated from Medford High School, Medford, MA with the class of 1947. She then graduated from the New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She worked for the Visiting Nurse Association in Boston. Mrs. Blair then went to work for the Elliot Hospital in many capacities, as floor nurse, school of nursing instructor as well as discharge coordinator, retiring in 1995 following over 30 years of service. She was a member of the Chester Congregational Baptist Church since 1972, a member of it's choir as well as a former Deacon. Mrs. Blair did volunteer work for the Sonshine Soup Kitchen in Derry and for the Geneva Point Center in Moultonborough. Mrs. Blair was also an Elderhostel volunteer and was on its Board of Directors. She was a member of the National Audubon Society, the Chester Senior Group and enjoyed gardening and bird watching.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Blair Widman and her husband Gregory of Moultonborough, NH, a son, Robert W. Blair of Concord, NH, two grandchildren, Kathryn C. Widman and Sean G. Widman, both of Moultonborough, two nieces, Sharon Conway and Lauren Carr, two nephews, William J. Conway III and Guy E. Conway and also by many cousins. She was predeceased by her son, Mark W. Blair in 1995, her brother, William J. Conway, Jr. in 2004 and by her former husband Robert Bowers Blair in 1988.
There are no calling hours. Following cremation, memorial services were held on Monday April 20, 2009 at 10:00 in the Chester Congregational/Baptist Church, Chester. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Geneva Point Center, 108 Geneva Point Rd., Moultonborough, NH 03254 or to the Chester Congregational/Baptist Church, 4 Chester St., Chester, NH 03036.
