WORCESTER-Rita E. (Mercier) Haggar, 87, of Worcester, died Monday, April 13th in UMass-Memorial Hospital, after a short illness, with her family at her side. Her husband of 51 years, Alfred J. Haggar died in 2006. She leaves her sister, Doris DeFosse of Worcester; and many nephews and nieces, including Paula Rabidou, Frank G. Mercier, Sharon DeCiccio and Frank R. Mercier. Mrs. Haggar was predeceased by her first husband, Albert Belacki and second husband, Oli Almonte; two brothers, Archie and Frank Mercier and three sisters, Cecile Desabrie, Blanche Stevenson and Florence Gilroy.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Frank A. and Emma (Marchand) Mercier. Mrs. Haggar had worked at the St. Francis Home, and later as a private care giver and as a hairdresser. She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels parish; enjoyed summering at Kennebunk, ME and will be remembered as a loving aunt to her nephews and nieces.
The funeral is Thursday, April 16th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. Calling hours are Wednesday, April 15th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
