GLOUCESTER: Albert Randazza, 87, formerly of East Main Street, died early Saturday morning in the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Clara (Wilson) Randazza, who died in March of 1993.
Born “Down the Fort” in Gloucester on January 8, 1922, he was the son of the late John and Nina (Parisi) Randazza. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and had attended Gloucester public schools.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served aboard a minesweeper, the USS Chimango, in the Atlantic Ocean. He was honorably discharged in October of 1945. He was a former member of the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post #3, American Legion and the St. Peter’s Club.
Al was employed as a commercial fisherman for many years aboard numerous vessels including the Antonia and the Jackie B. He then worked in the kitchen of the Addison Gilbert Hospital for eighteen years, having retired in 1987.
He is survived by a brother, Seraphino “Sophie” Randazza, two sisters-in-law, Genevieve Randazza and Antoinette Aiello, four stepchildren, John A., husband of Nancy J. (Russell) Arnold, Florence “Sis” Milne of Gloucester, Nancy Farina of New York and Joan, wife of Joseph Curcuru of Florida, ten grandchildren, Kendra and her husband, N. Scott MacFarland, Cynthia and her husband, Raymond Mackey, Kenneth A. Arnold and his wife, Carolyn, Julie A. and her husband, John B. Nicastro, Kristin J. Roderick, and her fiancé Kirk Wonson, John A. Arnold and Rachael E. Arnold, Gail and her husband, Douglas Fritch, Gayle and her husband, Dan Pado and Jennifer A. Curcuru, sixteen great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by his granddaughter, Joan Marie Randazza, great-grandson, Matthew W. Lezynski, three sisters, Antoinette Orlando, Grace Aiello and Frances Thompson and four brothers, Benjamin, Phil, Thomas “Pee Wee” and Anthony Randazza.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday evening in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 6 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 4 – 6 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Please omit flowers.
