Obituary

SULLIVAN, John Navin – Of Wellesley Hills and Point Brittany, FL, March 28, 2009. Born in Lowell, Mr. Sullivan attended high school at Keith Academy in that city. After serving in the Signal Corps in Italy and North Africa as a teenager during World War II, he then attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN. Following graduation from Notre Dame, he joined the Newton-Waltham Bank (now Bank of America) and served as Asst. Vice President in Charge of Advertising for several years before deciding to open his own Real Estate Firm in his Navin Office Building in Newton. For several years, Mr. Sullivan wrote and edited the “Serving our Servicemen” publication covering local news which was sent to servicemen and women during the Vietnam War. For his efforts, Mr. Sullivan received an official commendation from then President Richard M. Nixon. For the past several years, Mr. Sullivan was very active in local community efforts. He served as a member of the Board and of the Executive Committee of the Newton Red Cross. He was also Past President of the Newton Kiwanis Club and also Past President of the Newton TB and Health Association. He also taught courses at the Financial Public Relations Association in Boston based on his studies at the school of Public Relations at Northwestern University. In recent years, Mr. Sullivan was an active volunteer for the “Meals on Wheels” organization in Wellesley. He is survived by his brother Robert Sullivan and his wife Florence of Natick and his sister Jean (Mrs. Frank Donohoe) of Bethesda, MD and several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. (Rt.16) Wellesley, Saturday, April 25, at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Wellesley Hills, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Friday, April 24, from 4-6 PM. Interment Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline.
