Lillian R. Handley, 91

Lillian R. (McCormick) Handley, 91, of Willow Crossing, Mansfield formerly of West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain passed away peacefully in the presence of her adoring family on Monday April 13, 2009 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Norton. She was the beloved wife of the late Hugh A. Handley who died on January 8, 2005.
Born in Boston, MA on October 25, 1917 she was a dear daughter of the late John and Mary (Cronin) McCormick.
Lillian grew up in the Mission Hill section of Boston and was a graduate of Mission High School. In addition to being a dedicated homemaker to her loving family Mrs. Handley had also been a longtime employee at the Kemper Insurance Co. in Boston and Quincy before retiring.
Since living in Mansfield for the past 11 years she was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield and while residing in Boston was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church in West Roxbury.
A member of the Red Hat Society, Lillian enjoyed participating in activities at Willow Crossing, especially bingo, the exercise groups and partaking in day trips with her friends. Her biggest enjoyment was spending time with her loving family.
She is survived by her devoted children Kathleen M. Johnston and her husband William of Emerald Isle, North Carolina and Paul H. Handley and his fiancée Suzanne Bernard of North Attleboro. She was the sister of the late Richard McCormick, Vincent McCormick, Mildred McCormick, Isabelle Kerisher and Rita Vincent. Lillian is also survived by her cherished 7 grandchildren including Michael Handley and Matthew Handley both of Mansfield and 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday April 16th at 9:30 from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday April 15th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, Lillian’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
